Terms of use

Short, because there is not much to agree to.

What the app is

Campfire Chords is a personal clipping tool for the songs you play. You choose a web page, the page loads on your phone, and the app turns what is on it into a chord sheet that is kept on your phone for your own use. There is no shared catalogue, and nothing you save can be shared with anyone else through the app: no public songbooks, no sharing of songs or set lists.

What you save is your responsibility

The pages you import from belong to the sites that publish them. You are responsible for what you save, and you must respect the terms of the sites you save it from. Save songs for your own playing, and do not use the app to copy material you have no right to copy.

What the app costs

The app is free to download. The library, set lists, history and the play view are free, with no account and no advertising. A free install includes 10 chord imports.

Pro is a one-time, non-consumable purchase with no subscription. It includes chord imports for personal use, as many as you need, subject to fair-use limits that protect the service from abuse and may change over time. The price is shown in the store before you buy. Purchases are made through Apple or Google, and refunds are theirs to give, under their terms rather than ours. A purchase can be restored on a new install from Settings.

On iPhone and iPad, Apple's Standard End User License Agreement also applies, alongside these terms.

The import service

Importing runs online, on our server and a third-party language model, and needs a connection. It is provided as it is, may be unavailable from time to time, and may be changed or discontinued. Free imports can be paused for the rest of a day when demand is unusually high, and an import can fail on a page that does not read.

Your saved songs do not depend on it. They stay on your device and keep working offline — the library, the set lists and the play view need no network at all, so if the import service ever stopped, only new imports would stop.

The model is instructed to reformat what is on the page and add nothing, and lyric lines that are not found on the page are removed. It will still sometimes be wrong: a chord in the wrong place, a line missing. Check a song against its source when it matters, and use the editor to correct it.

Keeping your songs safe

Your songbook lives on your phone and syncs through your own iCloud, or Google Drive on Android once you turn it on in Settings. With sync off, the phone holds the only copy: if it is lost, wiped or replaced and your songs were not in a phone backup, they go with it. We never hold a copy, so we cannot recover one.

Provided as it is

The app and the import service are provided without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows: no promise that either will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for anything arising out of the app is limited to what you have paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits anything that cannot lawfully be limited — including, where you have consumer rights, those rights.

Acceptable use

Do not use the app to break the law or anyone's terms, and do not try to use the import service other than through the app, or to get around its limits.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Continuing to use the app after that is how the new version is accepted; if you would rather not, deleting the app ends the agreement immediately.
